I had the pleasure of creating graphics for Tessa Hulls’ exhibition Guided by Ghosts while working in-house at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History. This exhibition explored the deep, intertwining connections between identity, ancestry, and historical tides.
For these graphics, I wanted to create graphics that hinted at “roots” without being too on the nose. We lovingly started calling this graphic “the tangle” and used it throughout the exhibit and in the gallery activity (a card game that asks questions about your links to your lineage and identity). The title typeface feels like it’s hand-cut out of paper and ties into the show’s mixture of paintings, graphic novel clips and illustrations.
I created: Title Graphics, Vinyl, Interpretive Signage, Gallery Activity
Artist: Tessa Hulls
Exhibition: Guided By Ghosts: The Ones We Held Along The Way
Where: Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History
See the Virtual Exhibition here.
